The objective of this survey is to gain a better understanding on the functioning of FLOSS communities "at large" (developers as well as user) as virtual and informal learning environments.

The survey has a technical focus looking at the:

1. Communication tools used within FLOSS communities at large

2. Community building tools that are used within FLOSS communities at large

This survey is part of the European Union funded FLOSSCom project (www.flosscom.net).

The project aims at better understanding how Free / Libre Open Source Software (FLOSS) communities function as learning environments and if some of these principles might be transferred to formal educational settings.
